The long road to the coast – Valdes Peninsula

I seam to remember singing the “road is long,” in an other entry, but no road as been this long & cold as it is now !!!

We’re heading East, down from the Andes, towards the coast through some pretty bleak & desolate countryside. This is Northern Patagonia & it is winter, what else would you expect…… well not to have any on board heating would probably have been one of my 1st surprises. There’s a 600km stretch of road to be covered & the long day got rapidly longer as we drove straight into snow. After our Argentinean border crossing experience we stopped soon after hitting thick snow & to put chains on, q 45 minute battle over & we were slowly our way, stopping own & again to assist others caught out by the unexpected lowland snow.

There are miles & miles of semi tundra here, the rock formations become the most interesting things to look at so I’ve been glad to have a laptop with me so I can write up travels, arrange fotos & generally catch up with my correspondences.

With not much to se or do we treated ourselves to an evening’s movie night with beer & pizza. The guy running the basic hostel we overnighted at had invited us into his lounge/living room & let us use his place as ours. To our warm our dwindled sense of humour we had a cosy & welcome the log fire to warm our toes on.
